D. Serikbayev EKTU to host CDIO ASIAN REGIONAL MEETING 2026

12.01.2026

It is well known that D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU) is the only member of the worldwide CDIO Initiative among universities in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. From August 18 to 21, 2025, the annual regional meeting of CDIO member universities — the Asian Regional Meeting — was held in Batam, Indonesia. The organizer of CDIO ARM 2025 was one of Indonesia’s prestigious higher education institutions — Politeknik Negeri Batam (Polibatam). EKTU was represented at the event by Samat Baigereev, Associate Professor at the International School of Engineering, and Madina Yusubaliyeva, Senior Researcher at the Research Office.

The four-day program of the conference featured keynote speeches by leading experts in the implementation of the CDIO Initiative, special sessions, round tables, workshops, poster presentations, and other formats. All presentations were united by a common theme: “Navigating Technological Advancements: The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education.” The discussions focused on sharing experiences in engineering education, exploring new approaches and best CDIO practices, and fostering cooperation among Asian universities.

The culmination of the event was the announcement of the host of the next Asian Regional Meeting 2026. It should be recalled that in 2023 the CDIO ARM host was Bulacan State University (Philippines), in 2024 — Hokkaido Information University (Japan), and in 2025 — Politeknik Negeri Batam (Indonesia). Considering the achievements of our university in implementing the worldwide CDIO Initiative, the CDIO Asian International Committee has granted D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (Kazakhstan) the right to host the CDIO Asian Regional Meeting 2026. This means that next year our university will welcome representatives of Asian universities to collaborate and exchange experience in engineering education. Hosting the CDIO Asian Regional Meeting 2026 in Ust-Kamenogorsk will mark an important step in strengthening Kazakhstan’s position in the international educational arena and enable EKTU to make a significant contribution to the development of engineering education in Asia.
